A Year In Review – 2015

official HNY

Hello friends and HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!!

I was just looking at all my pictures from this past year, 2015, and realized it was a pretty darn good year, with a bit of heart ache as well…  Here’s a little recap for you:

January marked our 20th anniversary, and we celebrated it in a big way by renewing our wedding vows in Manuel Antonio:

20 year high res

Early February was a sad time, we lost our good friend, Steve:

In February, I took part in the “Chili Cookoff/Arts Festival” in Atenas with my Costa Rica Chica Arm Candy and Costa Rica Chica book, had fun and did really well!

In February, my paperback book went up for sale at a large bookstore in San Jose, Liberia Lehman:

17 feb 11In early March my good friend left Costa Rica. Debi and her husband Jim and sweet dog Petey returned to Ohio in the States (but I get to see her SOON as she’ll be visiting Costa Rica later this month!):

March 18th my husband, Greg, published his first book Living in and Visiting Costa Rica – 100 Tips, Tricks, Traps, and Facts, and it continues to sell REALLY well.  I’m so proud of him!

My new motto:

Us in Cachí, visiting friends:

We had a whirlwind trip to the States in May where we saw most of our family and lots of friends. Here’s Greg with his Mom, Shirley, and brother Michael and Marty:12Greg’s family in Oregon we visited:

A gorgeous hike we took in Bend, Oregon:

Then we flew to Wisconsin (with a little 2-day unexpected layover in Denver) and visited my sweet Mom in Wisconsin:

Here we are with Mom, my brother Andy and his daughter Ashley, and brother Ted and his wife Shannon:

Then we visited Tamarindo, Costa Rica for a week to pet sit for friends, had a great time at the beach:

My friend Lynette let me use her kitchen to take pictures for the cover of my cookbook, here’s us afterwards (with matching Neck Candy!):

On Aug 25th – my cookbook was published Costa Rica Chica Cookbook:

In November we started hiking longer miles every other week, training for a big hike with our friends in March, 2016 – Mt. Chirripó (the tallest mountain in Costa Rica).  Here we are in the middle of our longest hike to date, just last week – 9.5 miles (that’s a coffee bean plant behind us).  If you’re interested, click here for a little video I made from our hike.

So – briefly – that was my year in a nutshell.  It was a good year.  I don’t do resolutions, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have plans and goals (and maybe a few surprises!) in place for 2016. I’m looking forward to it, and I know it will be another great year.

Cheers to you, my friends – and don’t forget to take life by the horns! — Jen

  1. What a great recap and the pictures are fun and wonderful. (Wow—I am honored to be included ! ) I need more of your spirit and energy, my friend! You and Greg share a terrific outlook on life.

  2. Wow! How cool is that! I see that Greg likes to pose for photos with his hands in his pockets… I wonder if he realizes that? lol

  3. Hello, Jen!

Following your blog this past year has been so enjoyable. I love to see your posts in my inbox and especially love the “expat extra” interviews. You and Greg are wonderful at sharing your adventures with the world. I’ve read both your books on Costa Rica (Kindle) and am so excited to be visiting CR at the end of this month…for the first time! This will be a two week vacation trip, however if 2016 goes well I may get to spend a couple of months there next winter.

    Wishing you a wonderful year!

  4. Hi Jen and Greg! Great review and Happy New Year to you both! I will be coming back to CR in September for two months, staying at Lynns up the street. I hope to see you and take some walks around the neighborhood and coffee fields. Ahh… can’t wait to see you all.
