1 year anniversary of living Pura Vida

Wow, it’s official – we have been here 1 year now!  June 17, 2013 was our “landing date” here in Costa Rica, from little ‘ole Dallas, Texas, USA.  The odd thing is – in some ways, it doesn’t seem like a year has passed.   But in many more ways – I feel like we’ve been here a while now – we have changed, grown, and become very comfortable and settled here.  Life is good, my friends!

Here’s a short recap of our transition….

Starting to pack for Costa Rica.  One room of our house in Dallas was designated
as the “packing room” (an organized mess):

And here’s us now after 1 year.  Pretty much the same, except….
Greg is slimmer and hotter!
I’m slightly slimmer!
Both of us have longer hair!
We don’t own much!
Our life is MUCH simpler!
And MOST IMPORTANTLY – BOTH of us are HAPPIER!

Thanks to all of you who follow my blog, I cherish you!
Ciao for now! — Jen

PS – update on the BUG SITUATION – the worst of it appears to be over!  So I would say the bug season runs from about April 27th (right before rainy season starts in earnest) till mid-June (just to be safe, maybe earlier)!

Jen

I quit my job in my early 40’s, sold everything and retired early to live a simple life in Costa Rica!

  1. Congratulations, Jen! That is a milestone to celebrate. You both look so great. Pura Vida definitely suits you!! (And I have loved following your journey from afar!) I will tip a cup of Costa Rican coffee in your honor today!

  2. Thank You for sharing your life via your blog, always so insightful and uplifting! Definitely “less is more” lifestyle is a much healthier choice: less weight, more mobility; less stuff, more savings; less stress, more relaxed. May you and Greg continue on the Pura Vida trek for a long long time!

    • Aw, thanks sweet Paula – it’s good to be missed (and I miss you guys too!). I know – you can come visit us!! Seriously – think about it – we have a room for you. 🙂

  4. Cheers on 1 year! I arrived yesterday myself!! I am at the Corcorvado in SJ but today I go north to my first actual destination, the Arenal area. I have already met both amazing ticos and ex-pats – just from getting here from the airport. Congrats on your CR-anniversary, I look forward to posting something similar in 364 days on costaricagringo.com! You guys look great, btw! -Ron

  5. Awww Jen, loved this. Have to say I even got choked up a bit as the photo journey progressed. Crazy how time flies, huh? We’re approaching our one year too and I can’t believe how fast it has gone. You guys look so happy in those last pics. Cheers to another year (or 10 😉

    • Aw Jenn! So sweet to read this, thank you! Yes, your anniversary should be coming up soon, right? We are getting ready for our trip to Guanacaste next week and I’m so bummed you won’t be there for me to meet!

      • Yeah it’s on July 23, we’re a couple months behind you guys. I’m sad about Guanacaste too. If you feel like taking a trip to Lake Arenal in the next couple months though, let us know. Same climate where we are near Tilaran as in Grecia I think…plus there’s that awesome volcano!

        • Wow, yep you’re right around the corner from us on your Anniversary! I will keep Arenal in mind! We’ve visited Los Lagos there by the volcano – very cool. Hmmmm – I wonder if there’s a bus that goes there?? Will think about!

  6. I’ve really enjoyed reading about your transition. We’re looking forward to meeting you in person this September (we chose the rainy season to visit on purpose, to see what it is like).

Next month, we start out one-year countdown to moving. You have eased some of anxiety with your posts.

    • Thank you Wayne! Yay on your 1-year countdown soon. We look so forward to meeting you & Caroline soon (September)! Rainy season is no big deal, you’ll see. 🙂

  7. We’re on day 47 in CR, and loving the people, the beauty and the pura vida. Yes, the bugs have slowed to a crawl…ja ja ja.
